Overview of the Japan CMO Association (JCMOA)
The Japan CMO Association (JCMOA) was established in November 2010 when 18 contract manufacturing organizations (CMO) joined together for the purpose of undertaking research aimed at promoting the further growth and expansion of Japan’s CMO industry and resolving issues facing the industry; formulating voluntary guidelines related to the ideal form, etc., of appropriate contract manufacturing with pharmaceutical companies; formulating countermeasures to risks involved in contract manufacturing operations; collaborating with pharmaceutical organizations and regulatory authorities; and providing opinions.

Activities of the Japan CMO Association (JCMOA)
- Formulation of voluntary guidelines related to the appropriate implementation of pharmaceutical contract manufacturing operations.
- Promotion of fair and strict pharmaceutical contract manufacturing in line with GMP, the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, and other laws and regulations.
- Promotion of scientific research on the ideal state of pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality assurance.
- Research on and collection of information and materials, both in Japan and overseas, related to pharmaceutical contract manufacturing operations.
- Advertising and public relations activities to promote the facilitation and improvement of pharmaceutical contract manufacturing.
- Collaboration and exchange of opinions with related government agencies and various organizations.
- Sharing information that contributes to the mutual advancement of member companies.
- Mutual assistance when trouble related to pharmaceutical contract manufacturing arises
(including the provision of alternative manufacturing facilities in times of emergency). - Education and training for workers involved with pharmaceutical manufacturing technology.

Establishment of the CMO Case Example Study Group, planning of tours to overseas CMO plants, holding of debriefing meetings on the activities of committees, presenting exhibits at INTERPHEX and other events, and creating plans for realizing communication with pharmacutical companies in order to boost contract manufacturing business for member companies, etc.
